Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has three more events for youth of the county before the end of the month.
Program Director Shelby Van Horn says that they have held several Summer Food Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) classes throughout June. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that they’re able to hold the classes along with nutritious lunches.
“(There were) four sponsors that helped us to cover supplies and meals for all youth this summer. So those sponsors were Farm Credit Services, Landis, the (Guthrie Center American Legion) Auxiliary, and the Farm Bureau. So huge shout out to them and thank you to them for making it possible for us to provide these activities and lunches to youth in Guthrie County.”
Van Horn mentions that there are two STEAM classes next week, with a strawberry DNA activity on Monday and calming glitter jar craft on Wednesday. She adds that the final class will be on June 30th with a seed germination necklace craft. STEAM fun will be held from 10:30-11:15am each morning, followed by lunch from 11:15am to 12:15pm.
