A senior from the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Girls Track and Field Team reflects on a magical moment from the Iowa High School Athletic Union State Meet, where the Tigers were named back to back champions in Class 3A.

Josi Dufoe competed in her final high school meet in Des Moines from May 22nd-24th , as she had some outstanding performances. This year she ran in the 100 meter hurdles, the shuttle hurdle relay, the 4×100 meter, and 4×200 meter relay. ADM’s shuttle hurdle relay of Dufoe, Haley Nelson, Bella Smyth, and Elise Coghlan raced to first place, setting a state meet record of 1:01.15. Dufoe shares that she was unaware of the record, but was just trying to improve their personal time.

“It was just really surreal. I don’t think any of us even knew what the state meet record was. The one thing I said before the race was ‘hey guys, let’s just go out and run a sub 1:02′, because we’d run 1:02’s consistently throughout the whole season and that had been kind of a goal and obviously it was amazing, like we’ve been really consistent throughout the whole season and all of us hurdlers have pushed each other. I think it was amazing to be able to reach a goal that we didn’t even necessarily have, and be able to do that at state when it mattered the most, it was just so fun.”

Individually, Dufoe came out on top in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.50 seconds, as Coghlan finished right behind her at 14.55. She comments that she’ll miss running with her Tiger teammates and the culture that ADM has built their program around. The Tigers brought home their second straight track and field championship after winning the first in 2024. Dufoe is attending Drake University in Des Moines this fall to continue her track and field career, as she’ll be studying kinesiology.
