The West Central Valley School Board met in regular session Wednesday night.
The Board discussed having cameras in classrooms, and Superintendent Rusty Shockley shared that their lawyer mentioned that the topic could be an issue, as any recordings used would be included in the employee file of any staff and student file of any students that were in it. The Board also discussed having drug dogs come in to the school buildings, and Shockley mentioned that after going over their search and seizure policy, there was nothing saying they couldn’t ask for canines to be brought in.
The Board approved 2025-26 fees, a Board policy on the student use of electronic devices, and 2025-26 certified and classified staff employee handbooks. They also approved a teacher agreement with Buena Vista University, a therapeutic classroom agreement with Winterset, a 2025-26 service agreement with the Area Education Agency (AEA) for literacy consultative services and the contract for the transfer of state funding to the AEA.
The Board also heard survey results from SiteLogiQ, who will return for the July meeting with projected costs for the two projects they held the survey over, and approved the West Central Valley Silver Cord program and the School Resource Officer agreement with the city of Stuart. They then approved the 2025-26 EMC/safety group renewal, along with a 28E agreement and a resolution regarding the Storm Protection Fund, before entering a closed session for the superintendent evaluation, then adjourning the meeting when they were finished.
