The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Baseball Team finished the second of the double header versus Ballard in Slater on Thursday, dropping both games 6-4 and 12-1 in five innings, and lost their make-up game against Carlisle 7-5 earlier in the day.

ADM had their double header interrupted on Monday, following game one’s 6-4 defeat. Raccoon Valley Radio carried the second game as it advanced to the bottom of the third inning before lightning struck and suspended it with Ballard leading 5-0.

The game resumed on Thursday, as no runs would score for the Bombers in the third, and the Tigers would be held scoreless in the top of the fourth. Ballard then used a monstrous fourth inning, getting seven runs across home plate to build a 12-0 advantage. ADM needed at least three runs in the top half of the fifth to keep the game going, and they managed to capture one, but would ultimately fall 12-1 in five innings.

Eight players scored for the Bombers, with senior Nicolas Schonhorst going 2-3 at the plate, tallying three runs, then sophomore Evan Kinzenbaw went 3-3 with two runs scored, and junior Brady Hillebrand 1-3 and two runs. The lone run for the Tigers was garnered by freshman Ben Grife. The winning pitcher was Ballard sophomore Bryce Miller, who went four innings, allowed four hits, walked a batter, and had three strikeouts. Sophomore Sid Farmer pitched one inning, gave up two hits, one run, walked a single batter, and struck out one.

The losing pitcher was ADM senior Jaxson Book, who went 3.1 innings, allowed three hits, five runs, walked four, and notched three strikeouts. Sophomore Ben Plaisance went 2.2 innings, allowed six hits, seven runs, and struck out one.

The Tigers began Thursday with a conference game versus the Wildcats in Adel, as the game was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but postponed due to rainy conditions. Each team managed to get three runs across in the first inning, with the game tied at 3-3 at the end of one. Carlisle captured a single run in the top of the second inning, then ADM took a 5-4 lead by scoring two in the bottom of the fourth, as the Wildcats tied the contest at 4-4 with one run in the fifth, and followed it up with two more in the top of the sixth inning to roll onto a 7-5 victory.

Tallying runs for the Tigers was Grant Jansen with two, then it was Alex Jensen, Cade Fisher, and Leyton Gerleman. Jack Siefken took the loss for ADM as he went 4.1 innings pitched, allowed six hits, five runs, walked four, and had three strikeouts. Reid Kluesner lasted an inning, allowing two hits, two runs, walked three, and struck out two. Mason Entriken went 1.2 innings, and garnered two strikeouts.

Ballard improves to 17-2 overall (7-0 inside the Raccoon River Conference), while ADM falls to 6-15 overall (1-9 RRC). The Bombers will host the Tigers of Gilbert tonight at 7pm, with the Tigers in Adel for a non-conference matchup against Earlham at 7pm.
