The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) is helping out the Perry community with monetary assistance after the announcement that JBS USA is going to build a meatpacking facility in the area.

In early June, JBS USA Head of Communications Nikki Richardson shared that the corporation plans on investing $135 million in Perry to create a 150,000 square foot sausage production facility that would provide 250 jobs initially, with the hope of growing to 500. According to a press release, the IEDA board approved $12 million in tax benefits for the project through the High Quality Jobs program at their meeting on Friday, June 20th.

JBS USA, which is out of Greeley, Colorado, already operates three facilities in Iowa, with locations in Council Bluffs, Marshalltown, and Ottumwa. Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson details that the city is working on sectioning land, as construction is slated to begin this year and planning to open in late 2026.
