West Marshall (State Center) visited the Jefferson Softball Complex last night against Greene County in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. In the first meeting earlier this month in State Center, the Trojans walked-off the Rams 7-5 with a two run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning. That time, like this, the Rams built a lead, only Greene County held on at home for the one run victory to improve to 7-9 overall and 6-7 in the conference. WM falls to 12-7 and 9-4.

The Rams out hit the Trojans 11 to five, but were charged with three errors to one for WM. Senior lead off hitter Payton Kokenge had three hits with two by junior Becca Anderson, and sophomores Sara Morlan and Bellah Johnson. Anderson had a double to the warning track in centerfield. Sophomore Alivya Smith doubled and junior Kaycee Pittman added a base hit. Anderson drove in two runs with Johnson and Pittman each driving in one run.

Alaina Heard went all seven innings for the pitching victory. She allowed five hits, all singles, struck out four, walked two, and did not hit anyone with a pitch.

Greene County is at home with Nevada tonight to continue conference play. The Rams used a big seventh inning to win 13-1 against the Cubs in Story County in late May. Two games in the Denison-Schleswig Tournament tomorrow in Denison wrap up a six game week for Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rams.
