Dallas and Guthrie counties were affected by aggressive rain and lightning early Friday morning.
Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team went live around 6:10am after a severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the National Weather Service for east central Guthrie County and the Southwestern portion of Dallas County at 5:58am. NWS reported the severe storm was located over Panora or seven miles east of Guthrie Center, moving east at 35 miles per hour. The storm affected the communities of Redfield, Linden, Minburn, Adel, and Perry as it brought heavier rain and lightning. According to Minburn Fire Chief Dan Case, the area received a little bit of pea-sized hail mixed in with the rain.
The National Weather Service allowed the warning to expire at 6:30am after moving out of Guthrie and Dallas counties. Three Raccoon Valley Radio employees were involved in the severe weather action coverage, as well as Weatherology. Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team provides live coverage of severe thunderstorms or tornado warnings for Dallas, Greene, and Guthrie counties until the storms move out of the coverage area or drop below severe levels.
