Head coach Tom Merical of the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs softball team achieved a historic career milestone, reaching 1,000 career wins. The Mustang fans and team greeted coach Merical out on the field on Friday night after both wins against Indianola in double header action.

Always humble, coach Merical praised the community and the current and past athletes he has coached for reaching this milestone.

“Going through some of the text from former players over the years and parents and stuff now that’s that’s the neat part. To be able to keep in contact and hear things for them and you start thinking about all the people that you know that truly that responsible. Yeah I get the title is the head coach but it’s you know your assistants, it’s your players over the years, and your parents. Obviously, it’s a good feeling but it’s just more about knowing that I’ve been been blessed for so long and fortunate to be around so many great people over the years. That’s where that’s where it really means a lot.”

Coach Merical and the Mustangs return to action today in Carlisle for battle against the Tigers. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm.
