The Greene County Attorney’s Office didn’t strike out a third time for an individual to go through a jury trial, as that individual was found guilty Monday afternoon.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office confirms that 27-year-old Conner Groves of Scranton was found guilty on all five counts by a jury in Greene County District Court on Monday afternoon. The charges she was found guilty on include two Class C Felonies for first degree fraudulent practices and second degree arson, two Class D Felonies for conspiracy to commit a non-forcible felony and insurance fraud, along with a serious misdemeanor for her first offense for possession of marijuana.
According to court documents, Groves was one of the parties responsible for burning down a home on October 2, 2023 in Churdan. Court documents show that Groves conspired to set the home on fire, as well as falsely reporting to the insurance company that everything she owned was also lost in the fire, when the items were taken out of the home before it was set on fire. During an executed search warrant of Groves’ home in Scranton, marijuana was also found as well as the documents from the insurance company.
The second suspect in the case, 27-year-old Logan Grazier, is awaiting a pre-trial date in July. According to Iowa Courts Online, this case has been declared a mistrial twice already this year. Groves’ sentencing will be scheduled at a later date.
