Coach Tom Kennedy’s Greene County High School softball team has a season best five game winning streak after winning on Monday night in Roland vs. Roland-Story, 8-3. The Rams are 11-9 overall and 8-6 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play while the Norsemen fell to 9-12 and 6-4. The teams split their two conference games with each winning on the visiting diamond.
Greene County built a 7-0 lead after three innings and added a run in the seventh to go up 8-0 before the Norsemen put three on the board in the bottom of the frame.
Sophomore Alaina Heard was the winning pitcher. In seven innings, she allowed three earned runs on seven hits, three walks, and one batter hit with a pitch, while striking out R-S hitter 13 times.
The Rams had nine hits and leading Greene County offensively was junior Kaycee Pittman with three singles and one run batted in. Senior Payton Kokenge had two base hits while sophomore Sara Morlan doubled for the only Greene County extra base hit. Heard hit a single and drove in two runs while sophomore Makenna Ebersole and junior Becca Anderson also singled and each had one RBI.
The Rams were six for six stealing bases including Pittman going three for three. The defense of Greene County was not charged with any errors.
Its a home non-conference matchup tonight in Jefferson vs. Manson-Northwest Webster. The Cougars, members of the Twin Lakes Conference, entered this week with a 5-10 record.
