There are five young women who are vying to be crowned this year’s Greene County Fair Queen.

According to the coordinator Katlynn Mechaelsen, the contestants are Ella Tasler, Kaliyah Minnihan, Tatum Tucker, Savannah Lansman and Addison Gannon. Mechaelsen says each individual will be judged on the basis of poise, personality, and ability to converse at a competitive event, along with doing three different types of interviews. Since the days of when she was the Greene County Fair Queen in 2011, Mechaelsen adjustments have been made to get more girls interested in being a part of the contest.

“I think there was a stigma before of, ‘You’re not really wanting to do it.’ And now it’s something that the girls enjoy doing, they enjoy getting out. We’ve moved the contest to Wednesday which is the start of the (county) fair, so they get to rein the whole entire fair. You are a role model to a younger generation of females seeing somebody who’s involved in agriculture, involved in other organizations, you volunteer your time, you’re a good student, you hold yourself to a higher standard than others. That’s really what this is all about.”

The Fair Queen Contest takes place Wednesday, July 9th at 7pm in Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds.
