A retirement party is scheduled for tomorrow for the former Greene County Veterans Affairs Director.

Jefferson American Legion Adjutant Barb Labate says Michael Bierl will be celebrated with a public retirement party from 2-5pm at the Jefferson VFW Hall. Bierl started as the Greene County Veterans Affairs Director on January 1, 2019 and his last day was January 8, 2025. Labate points out that Bierl increased the outreach of the office to all area veterans and was instrumental in helping local veterans receive their benefits following the 2022 passage of the Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act.

Labate says another program Bierl started was monthly Veterans Coffees where he would provide updates to veterans about local, state or national benefits. She adds that this month’s Veterans Coffee takes place from 1-2pm tomorrow followed by the party that will be led by the new Greene County Veterans Service Administrator Billie Jo Johnson-Daves. The Jefferson American Legion and the Jefferson VFW Post #9599 are co-hosting the event.
