The AC/GC Chargers and Panorama Panthers softball teams faced off last night in a make up game for one they started over a week ago, and after a back and forth battle, the Chargers came out on top, 10-9.
The game originally started on June 16th, but was postponed due to incoming weather after the first inning. The two teams left that night tied 3-3. Action resumed last night, with the Chargers taking the field first. AC/GC was held scoreless in the second and third innings, while Panorama picked up two runs in the second off a homerun from Lexi Galvan, but were unable to score in the third. The Chargers secured two runs in the fourth inning, with an RBI double from Olivia Mahaffy, and two runs picked up on errors after Caydence Boals was walked. The Panthers picked up two runs in the fourth inning as well, going up 7-6.
AC/GC was unable to score in the fifth inning, while Panorama extended their lead by a run, going into the sixth up 8-6. During the sixth inning, Caydence Boals was able to slide into home on a steal, and Belle Fagan smacked one out to center field for a two RBI single, and the Chargers went up 9-8, and were able to hold off Panorama. In the seventh inning, both teams picked up one run, and AC/GC won their second game of the season.
Junior Jayla Hoover and Head Coach Tyelr Merical both said that batting and fielding were on point for the night, and that the team was able to string together some big hits when they needed them in order to pick up this win. The Chargers head to Earlham tonight for varsity doubleheaders in baseball and softball. The Raccoon Valley Radio Sports Network will follow the softball team once again, broadcasting the second game on 107.9FM and the KKRF online live stream, with first pitch at 7pm.
