Central Iowa is seeing more warm temperatures this weekend, as Dallas County Emergency Management is providing several locations to serve as cooling centers.
According to Director AJ Seely, the Emergency Management Department is activating its Extreme Temperature Plan today and tomorrow, where 16 places in Dallas County will act as cooling facilities. To avoid heat related illnesses, he suggests covering open windows with drapes, taking cool showers or baths, wearing loose clothing, staying hydrated, paying attention to heat cramps or exhaustion, and not engaging in high-energy activities outdoors during peak heat times.
Some of the cooling centers in Dallas County include several libraries in Perry, Minburn, Adel, Redfield, Dexter, and the Roy R Estele Memorial Library in Dallas Center. Seely indicates that most facilities are generally open during the day, but normally stick to business hours and don’t operate 24/7. The full list of cooling center locations is available below.
