
Coach Kyle Stalder’s Greene County High School baseball team hosted Carroll High in non-conference play on Friday night at Allensworth Field in Jefferson. The game was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with the Rams winning 10-1 after trailing 1-0 in the third inning. The Rams scored a run in the fourth, four in the fifth, and five in the sixth.
The contest was the fourth of the week for the Rams, but the third of the day for the Tigers! Carroll played a Raccoon River Activities Conference makeup doubleheader during the day on Friday with Boone prior to meeting the Rams last night. The win for the Rams was their third straight and fourth in the last five games as they improved to 5-11. The Tigers are now 7-14 after dropping the twin bill at Boone, 13-4, 10-0.
The Rams had five hits with a two run double by senior Lane Fields, plus a double from senior Isaac Carman that scored a run. Seniors Noah Hinote and Camden Jacobs had base hits and sophomore Jaron Jacobs added a bunt single. The Rams were walked five times and were hit with pitches six times by three Carroll pitchers. Senior Crew Conner and the Jacobs brothers each had one RBI. Each team was charged with one error.
On Senior Night for the Rams, senior left-handed pitcher Crew Conner went all seven innings vs. the Tigers, evening his record at 2-2. Conner allowed six hits, all singles, with two walks, and two strikeouts. The Carroll run was earned.
The Rams return to Heart of Iowa Activities Conference baseball on Monday night in Jewell vs. South Hamilton. Ram softball is also in Jewell vs. SH on Monday night.
