With the one bill from the 2025 Iowa legislative session being signed into law, schools are adding a new policy, or revising one they already had.

Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center Superintendent Josh Rasmussen says that the AC/GC School Boards went over this policy in their June meeting. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the policy pertains to student use of personal electronics during the school day.

“It’s our first reading and with the law change this year, devices cannot be used from bell to bell during the class time. So we had a good discussion and passed our first reading and kind of looking forward to communicating what those changes will look like in each one of our buildings.”

Rasmussen mentions that as with many other schools, AC/GC is putting in this policy to be in compliance with the new laws. He adds that the focus of the law, and of the policy, is to help make sure that instructional time during the school day is solely for learning, and that distractions are limited.
