Anyone who is a member with the Greene County Community Center in Jefferson will see an increase in their rates starting tomorrow.

Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department Director Nathan Kral says all membership rates, with the exception of the family pass, will be increased by ten percent, with the family rate to go up 15 percent. He explains why the JPRD Board voted to raise all of the rates.

“We are raising these because well it’s the first time since 2011 since they’ve been raised. The Board, they worked hard to keep this change as modest as possible. That being said, you know, I think we’ll continue to re-evaluate membership prices on a yearly basis rather than every 14 years. So, I mean if there is increases in the future it won’t be a ten, 15 percent, it’ll be a lot smaller than that.”

Kral mentions that the increases are only $3-4 extra per month, with the example of the annual family membership at the current amount of $320, will be going to $368, for an additional $4 per month, starting tomorrow. He states that these increases are not retroactive, but for any that start on July 1st or will be renewing a membership after July 1st, they will pay the new fees.

Kral points out that when the JPRD Board compared surrounding communities and their recreational facilities membership fees, even with the increases going into effect, they are still lower than others. Contact the community center at 515-386-3412 for more information.
