New information has been filed in court documents about the Friday evening incident that led to the alleged murder of a Jefferson man.

According to court documents, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office was notified about possible shots being fired at 2264 M Avenue in Jefferson at 7:28pm Friday. Jefferson Police arrived first as they were closer to the call and found 49-year-old Christene Thompson coming out of the back of the home, where she was then detained.

Court documents show that the officers then found Christene’s husband, 54-year-old Richard Thompson, inside the home with bullet wounds, where he was later pronounced dead. A perimeter was then set up around the home.

Court documents report that Christene told investigators that she and her husband Richard had been fighting all week and that Richard became jealous after she went to a bar the previous weekend. The criminal complaint states that after Christene came home from work that day, Richard was already intoxicated and was arguing again with her. Christene said in the report she started drinking alcohol and then Richard went into their bedroom and shut the door. She claimed Richard started punching the walls and allegedly he told her to “shoot him.”

Christene said in the report that she allegedly removed a .380 caliber handgun from a gun safe in the dining room and fired an unknown number of shots into the bedroom. Court documents show that Christene had to force the doorway open to the bedroom and found Richard lying on the bed with gunshot wounds.

Christene was then arrested and charged with a Class A Felony for first degree murder and she was booked into the Greene County Jail, where she remains under a $1 million cash or surety bond. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 2nd. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
