Perry Adult Services Librarian Mindy Farmer
The Perry Public Library is giving adults an opportunity to share about their background during a special program tomorrow.
Adult Services Librarian Mindy Farmer is inviting people out to a “How to Start Your Story” personal history workshop to uncover different aspects of their life. She details the goal of the workshop is to overcome writer’s block and begin documenting life’s experiences. Farmer elaborates that her father was an inspiration to start this program.
“My dad died when I was young, and I wish I had more of his stories. And for me, one of the things I have really learned is that everyone has a story. So I actually used to get to write weekly newspaper articles about people in my community, and I loved hearing people’s stories. And a lot of people say to me, ‘well I’m not a good writer,” and I want to open the doors for people to know that there’s actually lots of ways to record your story.”
Farmer outlines that the workshop will focus on sharing and preserving your personal history, as well as learning to record 15-minute stories. She emphasizes that people will have a chance to record their stories during a scheduled 30-minute session at the Carnegie Library Museum by appointment only during the month of July. The workshop tomorrow will take place inside the Community Room at the Perry Library from 6-7pm.
