After starting the season with just one win in its first 11 games, the Greene County High School baseball team is playing its best late in the season. The Rams have won their last three games, including a road upset of Class 3A number 8 Saydel in Des Moines, and have victories in four of their last five contests. Coach Kyle Stalder’s team is 5-11 overall and 3-10 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference.

The Rams play South Hamilton in Jewell tonight and will be looking to even the season series with the Class 1A Hawks. SH won in Jefferson earlier this month 5-2, and they start this week at 3-12 overall and 3-8 in the conference. The Hawks host West Marshall (State Center) in a makeup game in Jewell at 3 p.m. today. The Trojans are battling Saydel for the HOIAC title.

After going to Jewell, the Rams travel outside the league for a road contest in Dayton vs. Southeast Valley on Tuesday, then it’s two HOIAC make up games to end the week. Greene County hosts WM in Jefferson on Wednesday before Thursday’s game in Prairie City vs. PCM.
