With the 4th of July holiday coming up, there is a greater chance that more people will be commuting to get to various destinations, and the Iowa State Patrol has some safety reminders for motorists..
Iowa State Patrol Trooper Shelby McCreedy tells Raccoon Valley Radio what people should keep in mind if and when they are driving.
“We want people to understand that there’s going to be more vehicles on the road. There’s going to be more opportunities for celebrations throughout the weekend. And we want people to really remember the core safety tenets. Wear your seatbelt. Put your phone down. Don’t drive impaired. Obey the speed limit. Because with heavier traffic patterns, all of those come into play when it comes to avoiding serious injury and fatal crashes.”
McCreedy mentions that as always when it comes to times where people may be celebrating, individuals need to make a plan if they intend to go out, and then stick to that plan. She explains that with the extended time for the holiday, driving dangers could come up at any time of the day throughout the weekend. McCreedy adds that one plan she suggests to people is that if they don’t need or want to go out, don’t.
