The Perry Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up to hold a fun summer event for youth next week.

The organization will host the 2nd Summer Crafts for children in kindergarten through fifth grade at the McCreary Center, 1800 Pattee Street, in Perry. Recreation Coordinator Marco Perla indicates that it’s the second time the Parks and Rec Department has offered the program, but was originally known as the “Elements of Art.” He explains the purpose of the summer crafts is to give children who aren’t interested in sports opportunities to be active in a more craft-based environment, with the ultimate goal of catering to as many children’s interests as possible.

Perla notes that participants will have instructors with pre-planned crafts, but will have the freedom to design them in their own way. The summer crafts are happening this next Monday through Thursday, July 7th-10th, as Perla mentions that kindergarten through second graders will take place from 9-10am, then third through fifth graders will participate from 10:15-11:15am. He notes that the registration fee is $35 and the deadline ends tomorrow. Any questions can be directed to Perla by emailing at marco.perla@perryia.org or calling (515)-465-5621.
