Coach Tom Kennedy’s Greene County softball team played its last Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball game of the season last night in Jewell vs. South Hamilton. The Rams won by a 20-7 final and are now 14-9 on the season with an eight game winning streak. Greene County won its last five HOIAC games to finish in the upper division at 10-6. The final conference placing won’t be known until a number of teams complete their schedules, which include a number of makeup games.

The victory clinches a winning season for the Rams, their second in the last three campaigns, and the 20 runs are a season high as are the 23 hits. Seniors Chanyn Cunningham and Payton Kokenge had four hits, as did junior Becca Anderson. Sophomore Makenna Ebersole and junior Kaycee Pittman each had three hits with two from sophomore Bellah Johnson, and one each for sophomores Sara Morlan, Alivya Smith, and Alaina Heard. Anderson and Ebersole each had four runs batted in with three each from Kokenge and two apiece for Johnson and Morlan.

Heard pitched all five innings and gave up two earned runs on four hits, and six walks. She struck out SH batters 10 times.

SH had five errors and they fell to 2-11 in the league and 7-20 overall.

The Rams play in Harcourt tonight vs. non-conference opponent Southeast Valley.
