Iowa’s Third Congressional District Representative supports the decision by President Donald Trump when he ordered airstrikes against Iran’s nuclear sites.

Congressman Zach Nunn believes the move by President Trump that is being called “Midnight Hammer” was a masters class in 21st Century warfare.

“The US was able to maintain both the surprise through operational security and diversionary tactics that proved so effective in eliminating Iran’s nuclear threat capability. We’re already seeing that the strikes were successful in their objective of destroying nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan. These are the three components, any one of them essential to building a nuclear weapon.”

As for the initial report by the Defense Intelligence Agency saying that initially, the airstrikes only set Iran’s nuclear weapons program back a few months, which contradicted what President Trump had claimed as those sites being obliterated. Nunn tells Raccoon Valley Radio that as a career military intelligence officer who still serves as an intelligence officer, that report was submitted anonymously by only one of many intelligence agencies, and it had a low level of confidence about what was reported.

Nunn gives more details and background about Iran and what they have done to be a bad player in the Middle East.

“But they are forgetting the fact that Iran has been the number one sponsor of terrorism in both Hamas (and) Hezbollah, as well as now the Houthi rebels who have been shooting at US carrier strike groups. We know that Iran has designs on building a weaponized nuclear program that’s why they build it 30 stories underground. The reality here is that these strikes that we’re able to eliminate their above ground facilities and the strikes that were highly effective in damaging any reconstitution of the below ground facility are all unquestioned.”

Nunn adds that overall the mission was a success because it brought Iran back to the negotiation table to talk of having peace and ending the war with Israel.
