Greene County took its eight game high school softball winning streak to Harcourt on Tuesday night and played Southeast Valley (Gowrie) in non-conference action. A five run sixth carried the Rams to a 5-2 victory, their ninth in a row and the longest series of consecutive victories since the 2015 team went 12-0 to start the season. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team is 15-9 on the season while the Jaguars fell to 12-11. The Rams have won five of their last six vs. SEV.
The Jaguars scored twice in the first and never scored again. The Rams had just one hit, a Bellah Johnson single in the second inning, until they string four hits together in the five run sixth. An error and two walks were included in the big sixth inning. Becca Anderson walked with two outs and one runner on base, Johnson singled in the first Greene County run, then Makenna Ebersole, Kaycee Pittman, and Alaina Heard each drove one in. An outfield throwing error, the only error for the game by either team, brought in a run. Offensively, the first three batters of the game for the Rams struck out, and just one fanned in the final six innings.
Heard pitched all seven innings for the win. She allowed the two earned runs on four singles, four walks and six strikeouts. Heard walked three of the first six SEV batters, then issued just one free pass the rest of the game, and she did not hit anyone with a pitch.
The Rams are off tonight and will close the regular season at home at the City Diamond on East Lincolnway in Jefferson tomorrow night vs. Ogden. Tomorrow night will be Senior Night for the Rams and the varsity game will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
