As the summer reading program is in full swing at the Adel Public Library, the youth can participate in a fun program revolving around a fantasy world.

Programming Specialist Lily Schwarz tells Raccoon Valley Radio that youth in kindergarten through fifth grade are eligible to win packs of dragon cards as they complete their summer reading. She says that coming up this Wednesday will be a Reading Dragons Party, where children will be able to bring the cards in and play dragon-based games. Schwarz reveals that they adopted the idea from a library in Ohio, but that the Adel Library is altering the dragon cards to fit within their theme of “Level Up.” She elaborates on how the party is going to unfold.

“We wanted them to have a space and a time where they could come in and play, and also trade their cards. They’ll also be able to make their own deck box that has the art on it, and do some other fun activities.”

Schwarz describes that the library is providing supplies while they last, with no registration required, as it will be a drop-in/drop-out program. The event is happening inside the library community room from 1-3pm this coming Wednesday. Any questions can be directed to the Adel Public Library at (515)-993-3512.
