Coming up later this month is an event that Guthrie County 4-H and FFA members have the opportunity to compete in various livestock shows.
Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Youth Coordinator Rachel Muir says that the Guthrie County Showdown is on July 19th. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that this is the qualification event for individuals to be able to compete in the Heartland Showdown that is held in Ames. Muir explains that contestants will need to register for the event, and how they can do so.
“So the registration, there is a link on our website as well as a couple flyers going around. There’s a QR code as well as, if you call the office, we can shoot you that link. And it’s then all online or day of show. It’ll be happening down at the Guthrie County Fairgrounds. Registration is at 9am, show starts at 10am. And so the public is more than welcome to come down and support our 4-H’ers and FFA members.”
Muir mentions that this year, contestants for the livestock judging contest for the Guthrie County Fair will actually perform at the Guthrie County Showdown, judging the animals brought in that day. She adds that the event is only for Guthrie County 4-H and FFA members.
