The next Greene County Fair Queen contestant is from the northern portion of the county.
Ella Tasler is 16 years old and will be entering her junior year at Paton-Churdan High School. She competes in high school volleyball, basketball, track, and speech, along with participating in band, choir, Student Council and the high school yearbook. Tasler has been in 4-H for seven years and is the president of the Cedar Highland 4-H Club. She talks about why she got started in 4-H.
“I grew up right outside of (Washington) D.C. and we moved here when I was about three years old. My mom wanted to give me ‘the rural experience.’ So I joined 4-H when I was in 4th grade and started raising poultry because we thought you needed livestock to be able to show at the county fair. So every year, I kind of gotten more involved and started bringing different projects in several different areas. And now it’s become such a big and important part of my life.”
At last year’s Greene County Fair, Tasler showed several items, including a static exhibit of a photograph that went onto the Iowa State Fair and was recognized with the Professional Photographers of Iowa Award. She also earned the Seal of Excellence for her communication exhibit at the state fair. This past June, Tasler was also officially inducted to serve on the 2025-26 Iowa 4-H Council, which inspired her to be in the Greene County Fair Queen Contest.
“So at the Iowa State Youth Conference Mitch Hoyer, the Director and State 4-H Program Leader, he told us 4-H’ers that we needed to help develop the programs that helped develop us, that’s how I truly feel. I would be honored not only to represent 4-H, but Greene County, the program that helped develop me.”
The other contestants for the Fair Queen Contest include Savannah Lansman, Addison Gannon, Kaliyah Minnihan and Tatum Tucker. The Fair Queen Contest takes place Wednesday, July 9th at 7pm in Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds.
