A major project for resurfacing a segment of the Raccoon River Valley Trail is getting closer to securing all necessary funding.
Guthrie County Conservation Director Brad Halterman says that he and the Guthrie County Conservation Board, in conjunction with the Greene County Conservation Board and Director, are continuing to pursue grants to help fund a project that would repave a large stretch of the trail, covering areas in both counties. He mentions that WHKS Engineering is working on finalizing the plans and once all of the funding has been reached, they are shovel ready. Halterman explains that there are currently two major grants that they are pursuing, a State Recreational Trail Grant, and a Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) Grant.
