Greene County lost to West Marshall (State Center) in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference baseball in Jefferson on Wednesday night. The Trojans 9-0 victory allowed them to clinch a tie for the conference title. Saydel’s doubleheader sweep at Nevada means the Trojans and Eagles both complete the HOIAC schedule at 13-3.

Greene County lost its first meeting with WM last month in State Center by a final of 11-4. Last night’s game saw WM score three times in the first inning, once in the second and fifth, two more in the sixth, and two in the seventh. The Trojans had eight hits and two errors while the Rams totaled four hits and two errors. Overall, the Rams are 6-13 and they are 4-11 in the conference. The win for WM was number 20 against nine losses.

The four hits for the Rams were singles by seniors Gavyn Winters and Camden Jacobs, junior Nathan Towers, and sophomore Jaron Jacobs.

Towers pitched the first 6-2/3 innings and sophomore Zack Stalder got the final out in the seventh inning. Winning pitcher Vincent Clawson pitched into the seventh inning.

The Rams play their last HOIAC game of the season tonight in makeup action vs. PCM in Prairie City. The final regular season game is on July 7 in Jefferson vs. Atlantic with JV at 5:15 p.m. and varsity at 7:30 p.m. The postseason for the Rams starts on Friday, July 11 vs. Bishop Heelan in a Class 3A Substate 1 contest in Sioux City at 7 p.m. The game will be at Lewis & Clark Stadium, home of the independent professional Sioux City Explorers.
