The final candidate running for this year’s Greene County Fair Queen is also from Grand Junction.

Savannah Lansman is 16 years old and is going to be a senior this fall at Greene County High School. She competes in high school volleyball and track, while also being involved in Girls Scouts, GCHS Interact Club, Student Council, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA); Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Greene County Young Leaders and Greene County 4-H. She has been with 4-H for eight years and is with the Junction Food Producers. Lansman explains how she started with 4-H.

“I started in 4-H because I remember going to the fair and seeing how much joy all the animals brought to the people and seeing all of the creativity that was put into the static projects. It was something that I wanted to be a part of and having so much positive encouragement from my siblings who participate in (the) fair really helped, and now I get to help the younger kids and show them how great the (county) fair is.”

At last year’s Greene County Fair, Lansman earned Reserve Grand Champion for her rabbit, as well as Master Showman. She also had five static exhibits qualify for last year’s Iowa State Fair, where she received an Iowa Soil and Water Conservation Award for her landscape static exhibit. This year, Lansman plans to show rabbits again and enter about five static exhibits.

Lansman describes why she wants to be the Greene County Fair Queen.

“I wanted to compete because it is truly a great opportunity, getting to know people on a different level, being able to be a leader, and be more involved in the community. It was just something I knew I wanted to do. And of course I know how much I looked up to the past competitors and I want to be that role model for the younger kids as well.”

The other contestants for the Fair Queen Contest include Ella Tasler, Addison Gannon, Kaliyah Minnihan and Tatum Tucker. The Fair Queen Contest takes place Wednesday, July 9th at 7pm in Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds.
