
Ogden and Greene County met in non-conference high school softball on Thursday night in Jefferson with two long winning streaks on the line. The Bulldogs’ winnings streak reached 11 while the Rams saw theirs end at nine in a row after an 8-7 final in eight innings. Ogden is 20-11 while the Rams fell to 15-10.
The Bulldogs held a 7-0 lead before junior Becca Anderson sent the first pitch in the bottom of the sixth over the left field fence. The homer was her second this season and it got the Rams on the board. Down 7-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Greene County put on one of the great late game comeback by scoring six times to send the game to the eighth inning. Five of the runs came with two outs. The Bulldogs went up 8-7 with two outs in the eighth and the fourth error by the Rams was instrumental in the visiting team regaining the lead. In the bottom of the frame, the Rams had two on, but could not push a run across.
Sophomore pitcher Alaina Heard took the loss. She went all eight innings and allowed four earned runs on six hits, five walks, and she hit a batter hit with a pitch. Junior Katie Wilcoxson was the winning pitcher after she gave up seven earned runs on on 12 hits. She walked four and fanned four, and Ogden’s defense was not charged with an error.
Andesron had two walks in addition to the homer and she drove in two runs. Sophomore Sara Morlan singled and doubled, and Heard singled twice and drove in a run. Sophomore Bellah Johnson had two singles and two RBI while senior Payton Kokenge had two base hits and sophomore Makenna Ebersole had a double and a run batted in. Senior Violet Reedy collected a single, as did junior Kaycee Pittman. Thursday was Senior Night for the Rams with Kokenge, Reedy, and Chanlyn Cunningham and their parents introduced prior to the varsity contest.
The Rams go to Creston on Tuesday night to close the regular season. Greene County opens Class 3A Region 4 softball in Jefferson at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 10 with Des Moines Christian. The postseason contest will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
