A Fort Dodge woman was recently sentenced to probation after stealing over $11,000 from a Jefferson business.
According to court documents, 23-year-old Shanntell Tiernan pled guilty to an amended charge of a Class D Felony for second degree theft. She had a five year prison sentence suspended and was placed on probation for three years with the Iowa Department of Correctional Services.
The charge stemmed from an investigation with the Jefferson Police Department, which started on July 15, 2024 when a business reported $11,129 of items were missing. Court documents show the officers were able to identify the vehicle, as well as Tiernan and another suspect, that were involved via the surrounding business’ security cameras and it was discovered that the suspects live in Fort Dodge. An executed search warrant found the stolen property.
Court documents show that Tiernan was also ordered to pay over $11,000 in victim restitution and the other suspect, Danyell Freeman, has entered a guilty plea in her case and is awaiting sentencing.
