Greene County softball has more tripled its victory total from 2024, so at 15-10 with just one regular season game remaining, plus the Postseason, Coach Tom Kennedy’s team has much to be happy about. The end of the regular season and Postseason will challenge the 15-10 Rams, who have just three seniors in its lineup, to go with two juniors, and five sophomores, for most games.
Coming off an 8-7 loss in eight innings to 20-11 Ogden on July 3, the Rams finished the regular season on July 8 in Creston vs. a Panthers team that was 28-6 entering the weekend with 48 home runs to its ledger. Creston is ranked number 13 in Class 4A by the Iowa High School Athletic Union.
The Class 3A Region 4 Tournament begins on July 10 in Jefferson vs. Des Moines Christian at 7 p.m. on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The Lions have a record similar to Greene County’s entering this week, and should the Rams win on Thursday, the likely second round opponent on July 12 would be at Monroe vs. PCM, the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference Champions, who went unbeaten in conference play and are ranked fourth in 3A. The Mustangs have 7-0 and 8-2 victories vs. Greene County.
