
Greene County completed its high school baseball regular season on Monday night vs. Atlantic at Allensworth Field in Jefferson. The Rams won the game by a 9-7 score to improve to 7-14 on the season while the Trojans fell to 9-15. The game was the final one at home for the seven Greene County seniors, all of whom were in the starting lineup.
Kyle Stalder is the head coach of the Rams and he used six pitchers in the contest. Senior Noah Hinote threw a one-two-three first inning, then he finished out the game by throwing the seventh inning, allowing only a two out walk. Senior Crew Conner was the wining pitcher with Hinote getting the save. Conner threw a scoreless sixth, followed by Greene County breaking a 7-7 tie by scoring twice. Senior Camden Jacobs tossed the second inning, followed by junior Teagan Chisholm, junior Nathan Towers, and sophomore Zack Stalder. Towers allowed five runs, three earned, and Stalder gave up two earned runs. The Rams had four errors with two for Atlantic.
The Trojans had nine hits and left 13 runners on base with Greene County collected 10 hits and left just four runners on base. Leading the Rams at the plate were seniors Gavyn Winters and Conner with each hitting a double, a single, and driving in one run. Hinote and sophomore Jaron Jacobs each had a pair of singles. Senior Lane Fields had a double and a run batted in, and eighth grader Kading Winters picked up an infield hit to begin the bottom of the sixth. It was his first varsity hit, and he scored what ended up being the winning run.
All that’s left for the Rams is the postseason, which begins on Friday, July 11 in Sioux City at Lewis & Clark Stadium at 7 p.m. vs. Class 3A number 4 Bishop Heelan. The Friday game can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
