The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Softball Team was able to shake off a slow start versus Carroll on Monday to capture a 10-1 victory in 5 innings.

It was the final Raccoon River Conference game of the regular season for ADM against Carroll, as they won the first game on June 25th in dominant fashion, 21-0. However, on Monday, Carroll jumped out to the early 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning, as the three batters racked up hits. ADM responded in the bottom of the 1st, scoring 2 runs to take a 2-1 advantage. Neither team got runners across the plate in the 2nd inning, then ADM started to quickly tally runs with 2 in the 3rd, 2 in the 4th, and 4 in the 5th inning to secure a 10-1 win.

Tiger sophomore Kinzie Maxwell led the way, going 2-3 as her courtesy runner freshman Peyton Herrick marked her 2 runs. Then it was 1 run each Elliotte Von Roden, Lauren Hagedorn, Kennedy Stanford, Aubrey Noring, Ellis Smith, Aniston Tollari, Chloe Olthoff, and Karsyn Stanford. Scoring the lone run for Carroll was sophomore Kyra Hosenfelt. Smith says that Head Coach Lindsay Stanford is preaching “One Game at a Time,” but also not to get too high or low after a contest.

“I think our favorite saying right now is (having the) memory of a goldfish, whether or not that’s positive or negative. Softball, like each game, is independent of itself. So we just need to go into every game like having the mindset of we’re going to win and come in with our whole energy to each game, and regardless of if we’re on a win streak or if we have just lost a game, like we to push that away, because every game is a new game and it’s just so important to come in with a new mindset.”

The losing pitcher was Hosenfelt, who went 5 innings, allowing 11 hits, and 10 runs. The winning pitcher was Makenna Pitlick, who lasted 2 innings, allowed 3 hits, 1 run, walked a batter and struck out 3. Hagedorn went 3 innings, walked 2 batters, and captured 6 strikeouts.

Carroll drops to 1-25 on the year (0-15 RRC) and will be hosting Bondurant-Farrar tonight at 6pm, while ADM improves to 25-7 overall (12-4 RRC) and will be off until tomorrow when they travel to Pleasant Hill to face South East Polk at 7pm.
