The Jefferson City Council met briefly Tuesday night.

Two individuals spoke during open forum about Congregate Meals. Linda Ross gave a historical overview of how Congregate Meals started at the Greenewood Community Center nearly 50 years ago. She pointed out that currently, they serve an average of 92 meals daily for dine-in, carryout and delivery. She said there is a commercial grade kitchen that is inspected by the state annually and that meals are delivered to five communities. Ross added that the volunteer deliverers might be the only people the in-home person sees that day.

Bill Allen with Congregate Meals also addressed the Council. He said they met with the Greenewood Incorporated Board and were told only the basement was going to be used for the clubhouse, but now everything has changed. He challenged each of the council members to go to the Greenewood Center for Congregate Meals and deliver meals to their clients so they get a feel for how important that entity is in the community.

The Council approved the third and final reading of an ordinance to establish a Blight District within the Urban Renewal Plan for property that includes the former middle school being converted into apartments, which also allows for the division of taxes on the area. The Council also approved the 29th pay estimate of $4,045 to Shank Constructors for work completed for the Wastewater Treatment Plant improvement project.
