
Greene County ended the high school softball regular season on Tuesday night in Creston vs. the Class 4A number 13 rated Panthers with a loss by a final of 14-1 in 4-1/2 innings by the 10 run rule. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team is 15-11 on the season and will begin the postseason at home in Jefferson tomorrow night vs. Des Moines Christian to begin Class 3A Region 4 action. The Panthers improved to 31-6 and they hit two home runs, bringing their season total to 51.
The Rams held a brief 1-0 lead on a run scoring single by sophomore Bellah Johnson in the top of the first inning after senior Payton Kokenge tripled to start the game. Those were the only two Greene County hits. The Panthers answered in a big way, winning by the 12 run rule in three innings. .
Sophomore Alaina Heard took the pitching loss with relief help from freshman Hannah Fouch. All 14 runs, all nine hits, and all 10 walks came off of Heard. Heard struck out two batters and Fouch fanned one.
Thursday’s game vs. DMC will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage around 6:30 p.m. with first pitch set for 7.
