Following a few raids that have taken place in several states across the country by the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at farming operations, one lawmaker from Iowa supports those efforts to find illegal individuals.
Iowa’s Third Congressional District Representative Zach Nunn is supportive of those immigrants who are in this country illegally and are hidden among other workers on farms.
“There are some states that have willfully looked the other way and they have allowed the illegal immigration piece of this to take over the protections for our communities. And as a result, we have seen some really tragic things happen, illegals who have come into the country and done real harm.”
However, Nunn also supports and acknowledges the immigrants who are working on farms, such as in Iowa, and who are going through a legal process to become US citizens.
“And so, I want to make sure that we have not only good pathways that are protected, but I also want to highlight good employers that are using things like bills I led in the state legislature called ‘E-Verify’ to make sure that both the employer, the employee and the community know that they’ve gone through the right process and help them continue on that path.”
Nunn adds that immigrants working on Iowa farms that are legally becoming citizens are a vital piece to the overall success of the agriculture industry.
