The Greene County Historical Society is once again bringing back a few programs during the county fair.
According to the Historical Society, the Fair Chats will begin tomorrow at 11am with the topic “Why 4-H: Yesterday and Today” with presenter Craig Hertel. Organizers say Hertel was a former Greene County Extension Director and he will look back through the history of the 4-H program. Then at 1pm tomorrow will be with Greene County Conservation Naturalist Jacob Fernholz on the topic of “A Timeline of Iowa’s Megafauna” that covers large animals that once lived in Iowa.
The final Fair Chat is on Saturday at 1pm with local farmer Nick Foster as he explores what agriculture was like with steam powered farm equipment.
Historical Society Co-Director Mike Piepel encourages everyone to check out their other exhibits at the fair.
“We have our building open. It’s fun to walk through and see all of the historical (items), everything from equipment used on farms to the inside building of what an original cabin was in rural Greene County back in the 1800s.”
All activities and programs with the Greene County Historical Society at the Greene County Fair are free and open to the public.
