A unique opportunity for the teens in Jefferson and surrounding communities is happening soon that involves royalty, to an extent.

Jefferson Youth Services Librarian Bailey Mount says Tina McPherson, who goes by Pirate Queen Bonnie Blue at the Des Moines Renaissance Faire at Sleepy Hollow, will be leading a Cosplay Class for 5th-12th graders this coming Thursday at 2pm. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio teens will learn how to make everyday household items into cosplay characters and costumes. Mount recalls that when she found out that McPherson was from Jefferson, she wanted to put together this kind of workshop as an educational and creative outlet for the teens.

“Once I said I wanted to show these kids that they can really start anywhere and they don’t need to be fooled by all of these TikTok influencers, going, ‘Buy the most expensive thing ever’ to do good cosplay. So I’m really excited just to see what they can come up with.”
