The final main day of activities is happening tomorrow at the Greene County Fair.
Greene County ISU Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway says the highlights for tomorrow include all of the beef shows in the show ring that begins at 8am, along with the Horse Fun Show in the afternoon in the horse arena, followed by the communications exhibits in Clover Hall. She talks about how important the communication projects are at the fair.
“I would say it’s definitely the few, but the mighty. We have some kids that are amazing at this and have competed in this contest every year and go and compete, competitively at the state fair as well. I guess the general overview of it is its public speaking. You’re having to do an educational presentation or a craft with kids, like a working exhibit. So, there’s lots of different avenues in communication, but it’s always really fun to go watch kids talk about something that they’re passionate about.”
Greene County Fair Board Vice President Katlynn Mechaelsen says some of the other activities for tomorrow are the Kids Pedal Pull with Greene County Farm Bureau, along with a Reptile Show at the gazebo with Greene County Conservation. Then it is bingo and the baby contest that are in the afternoon in Clover Hall. Fair Board President Jack Willliams mentions that the Grandstand entertainment is going to be the Truck Pull at 6pm. He describes how much better the experience can be from the pit area instead of sitting in the grandstands.
“You’re that much closer to the trucks, so you actually kind of get to feel, I guess, the exhaust or the engine power as they’re pulling. And then you can walk around and listen to what they’re saying, see what they’re doing to keep their turbos cool. It’s interesting.”
Tickets are $30 for the pits, $15 for the regular grandstand and kids five and younger or if youth wear their Greene County 4-H t-shirts, can get in for free. Additionally, Raccoon Valley Radio will also be there broadcasting live from the Greene County Fairgrounds from Wednesday through Saturday from 10am-6pm and Sunday from 10am-1pm.
