The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Baseball Team concluded their season in the Class 3A Substate 8 opening round on the road in Oskaloosa 10-0 in 6 innings on Friday, following a nearly two-hour lightning delay that pushed the game into early Saturday morning.
The Tigers and Indians were originally scheduled to start at 7pm, but the matchup was pushed to 8pm when there was still significant rain and lightning in the area. The game began, which saw Oskaloosa immediately get on the board in the bottom of the 1st inning with 2 runs across the plate from senior Maddux Ashman and junior Jake North for an early 2-0 advantage.
The game would get to the top of the 3rd inning before lightning was spotted at 9:06pm, causing a 30-minute delay, with a few more sightings, resulting in the time to reset, and the matchup would be stalled for an hour and 40 minutes, as play resumed at 10:51pm. From there, ADM was not able to do much versus Oskaloosa senior pitcher Jaden ReRonde.
The Indians tacked on another run in the 4th inning to make it 3-0, then captured 3 runs in the 5th inning, and 4 more in the 6th to secure the 10-0 victory in 6 innings with the game wrapping up around 12:20am on Saturday. The Tigers were led by senior Jaxson Book, who went 2-2 at the plate with 2 singles. Oskaloosa was charged by North, who finished 4-4 with 4 singles and 2 runs scored. DeRonde was the winning pitcher, going innings, allowed hits, and tallied 5 strikeouts. The losing pitcher was ADM senior Grant Jansen, who lasted 1.1 innings, allowed a hit, 2 runs, walked 5 batters, and struck out 2.
The Indians improve to 17-12, keeping their season alive and will face Benton on Monday in the semifinals. The Tigers conclude the year at 9-23 overall and graduate five seniors of Book, Jansen, Cade Fisher, Reed Ausdemore, and Owen Evans.
