On Friday, the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs baseball team traveled to Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs to face off against the Lewis Central Titans for Class 4A substate baseball action. The Mustangs would perform well defensively but would struggle on offense, falling to Lewis Central 3-1.

Taitn Gray would end his senior season with the Mustangs going 1-2 from the batters box with two walks and a double. Gray would come into score after a single by Braydon Schyvinck for the lone run for DCG. The Mustangs would out hit the Titans 5-4, but would not be able to capitalize with runners in scoring position leaving six Mustangs stranded throughout the playoff battle.

DCG would use three pitchers against Lewis Central, as Brady Smith would get the starting nod pitching through two innings allowing two hits, three runs and one strikeout. Connor Stolpe would relieve Smith through 3.2 innings allowing two hits with four strikeouts while Chase Engel would close the bottom of the sixth for DCG.

The Mustang season comes to a close after falling to Lewis Central 3-1 in the first round of playoff baseball. The Mustangs end the season with a 21-10 record, and graduate nine seniors on this year’s squad.
