The Perry Community School Board met in regular session on Monday.
Vocal Music Director Jenn Hillman and Band Director Blaine Schmidt requested permission to travel to New York City over spring break in March of 2026. Hillman shares that approximately 100 students will be going on the trip, and will be fundraising to cover the expenses. Hillman and Schmidt were excited to take the trip with the students, as they mentioned they went in 2022 and it was a great experience, especially for some students who never left the state of Iowa. After discussion, the board made a decision to approve the trip.
Other items on the agenda that were approved included a Cooperative Agreement between the Perry Community School District and the University of Northern Iowa for educational agencies, a collaboration agreement with Buena Vista University for Field Experience, Student Teaching, Practicum, and Internship; an Employers Mutual Insurance Company Renewal with TrueNorth for 2025-26 Property and Casualty Insurance Program, and a delegation of construction change order approvals not to exceed to $50,000 to Superintendent Clark Wicks.
More items on the agenda that was approved featured universal free breakfast for all students for the 2025-26 school year, a Pan-O-Gold for Bakery Vendor bid, a milk bid by Hiland, a food service agreement with the Perry Child Development Center, then handbooks for a para-educator, elementary staff, middle school staff, teachers, elementary student/family, high school students, and district support staff.
The board also reappointed several areas for the 2025-26 school year including legal counsel, bank depository and limit amount, a level one and level two student abuse by School Employee Investigators, Title IX Coordinators, an American with Disabilities Act Coordinator, and a Homeless Coordinator. The board tabled an appointment of a District Equity and Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Officer to have further discussion at a later date.
