Perry basketball has been using the summer to get better for this upcoming year. The Bluejays used the month of June to play some other area teams. Open gyms have been taking place twice a week and they have given Head Coach David Morris an opportunity to work with the guys. The numbers and effort have been strong over the summer.
“The buy in is good but a lot of them work a lot of them have other things that they’re doing. They’re multiple sport kids. You don’t want to burn them out and you want to make sure that they’re doing the other things too but I think they understand when it’s our time it’s time to focus on and that specific sport.”
Coach Morris has some more workouts on the table before the dead period at the end of the month.
“We got about two more weeks of open gyms. I know I’ve got another scrimmage that another coach is wanting to do.”
Perry is coming off a strong 13-10 season where they finished tied for third in the Heart of Iowa Conference.
