The Dallas County Board of Supervisors met in regular session on Tuesday.

Turner Construction Special Projects Division Manager Jeff Nelson presented the board with an updated budget proposal for the Criminal Court Building that will be on the ballot this November. They shared that the bond referendum will be for $60,300,000 for the project.

Supervisor Julia Helm said that after the measure didn’t pass during the 2024 general election, she feared that if the building fails again, then it would be hard to convince the public about the needed features the building would bring. Supervisor Brad Golightly emphasized that he would like to bring people up to speed on the services that the proposed criminal court building would provide, which Helm agreed with and would like to hold educational forums tailored towards the public. After expressing those concerns, the board went ahead and approved the ballot language with the bond referendum amount of $60.3 million.

Next the board held a public hearing for an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) scheduling Software agreement, where EMS Director Kristin Brady presented the board with three options. Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante chimed in that their office would like to utilize it as well. However, the board wanted more time to consider which option they would like to pursue, with the choices of a three-year, five-year, or a seven-year agreement.

Next, the board approved three resolutions pertaining to operating transfers, with $5,775 from the General Basic Fund to the Secondary Roads Fund, $24,147 from the Rural Services Basic Fund to the Secondary Road Fund, and $35,450 from the Heart of Iowa Regional Fund to the Heart of Iowa Mental Health and Disability Services Sub Fund.

The board also held workshops for the County Human Resources Department, a supervisors procedures and accessibility meeting, and a county comprehensive land use, zoning, and building code workshop. The meeting then ended in a closed session.
