A project is taking shape at Daubendiek Park in Jefferson.

Parks and Recreation Director Nathan Kral says a construction crew is installing a new restroom facility near where the current structure is located, towards the western side of the park. He points out that the new restroom will have running water, along with sewer and electricity included, as he describes what people are seeing at the construction site now..

“This will be just the building itself and then actually our city crew (with the Public Works Department) will be doing the water and sewer lines sometime as well, I don’t have a date on when that is slated to get started. So hopefully by next spring they’re fully operational.”

Kral notes that this project was made possible by a $90,000 Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation grant, while the work from the city crew is being used to offset the total cost of the overall project. He explains that because of all of the other improvements to Daubendiek Park, such as the upgraded walking trail, adult outdoor exercise equipment and the established disc golf course, having a better restroom facility was necessary.

“There are lots of users of that park. And if you’ve been down there right now, there is a restroom but it’s more of just an outhouse type structure, (with) no utilities or anything. So we thought with it being one of the more popular parks in Jefferson it was time for a modern restroom facility.”

Kral appreciates GGCGC, the city crews and the work by the JPRD Board to make this amenity a reality.
