This Saturday will be a town celebration in Greene County’s southernmost community.
Chelsi Lawrence is the coordinator for Rippey Fun Day and she says the festivities begin at 11am with a parade, there’s no cost to enter and lineup starting at 10:30am at the fire station. Then most of the other activities start at noon with a variety of vendors and food trucks opening, along with yard games, a petting zoo, face painting, a bounce house and People for Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) of Greene County will be on hand with animals to be adopted.
Lawrence notes that from 1-4pm will be their car, semi, tractor and motorcycle show with a $20 fee and a separate truck show takes place with a $15 fee which she says was a smashing success last year.
“And that’s for the younger generation. They have their newer trucks with the big wheels they like to show off. Which is new to Greene County, I believe. So we’re excited to have that again. We had a good turnout last year, I think there was like 74 or 76 trucks that showed up.”
Lawrence points out that people are encouraged to do burn-outs in a designated area as well, with a permit issued for legal purposes. She states that there are going to be several raffles with two featured items of patriotic themed custom wrapped toolboxes, along with other big items with $20 per raffle ticket. Lawrence says also in the afternoon are a variety of tournaments including a bags tournament at 2pm with a $40 per team fee, 3-on-3 basketball at 5:30pm with a $30 fee and a pickleball tournament at 6pm with a $25 entry fee. Everything takes place near Walt Anderson Field on the west side of town.
The evening festivities are a meal served at the First United Methodist Church from 4:30-6:30pm, followed by fireworks at dusk. Lawrence says people can register for anything via Venmo at friends of Rippey or by emailing her at chelsilawrence08@gmail.com.
