A large number of Perry athletes have been spending their summer in the weight room with Josh Vannornam. The Bluejay football coach has been working with third graders through seniors to build strength, improve quickness, and sharpen skills. This week is the final week of the summer session.
Multiple high school coaches have expressed great pleasure with the workouts including the Girls Wrestling Coach TJ Maylum.
“They can work out five days a week and they can go to those open gyms two days a week. They’re providing food. There’s excellent supervision for your kid. They will be cared for and they’re going to be better for it.”
Boys Basketball Coach, David Morris, has noticed that the athletes who buy in to these workouts have made great strides in their sports. He mentions Geren Kenney and Owen Myers as two guys who bought in as eighth graders and made great leaps by their senior year. He’s starting to see others do the same.
“They did everything they could do to better themselves and so I think their leadership there, others have seen it and you look at a Gavin Leslie now he bought in last year I saw it.”
Coach Morris thinks Leslie could be an integral part to the next chapter of Perry basketball.
